It’s all about a unique experience in the waters of the famous Beagle Channel. You will have the opportunity of diving in a very special place, where the mountains meet the sea, and discover the secrets and wonders hidden at the depth of the channel. During the dive, you will be able to watch giant algae, shipwrecks, king crabs, jelly fish and other sea fauna.
It’s a program that can be done the entire year, except when winds are too strong, and the sea becomes turbulent, while visibility is scarce. In summer the great amount of plankton diminishes visibility at the water.
The water is cold and thus special equipment is available for divers. Temperatures in the water go from 2 to 4 degrees centigrade in winter while in summer temperatures range from 8 to 10 degrees centigrade.
When diving at the waters of the Beagle Channel, you will find what seems to be a submerged forest and it’s really spectacular when sun rays illuminate the depth pf the channel. The established limit for diving is around 12 meters. One recommended site for diving are the Bridges Islands which abound in spectacular walls and limited depth. The most usual places for diving are Karelo, Canalcito and Iturrieta.
Everybody can dive at Ushuaia, from beginners to professionals. Beginners will go to Paso Chico in the Dos Lomos Island, where you will be able to sight the remnants of a sail boat that sunk during a fierce storm.

Here you will find a kind of gigantic algae known as cachiyuyos, which main characteristic is there longitude since they can reach 40 meters long, which helps diminishing the size of waves. You can also see luche algae, of red colour and are able to eat.
It is also possible to sight poriferos, a specie that lives at the bottom of the sea, such as white and orange sponges. Also anemone that live below the rocks, and the enormous jelly fishes that are suspended between surface and bottom of the sea.
Other species that can be easily found are the star fish, hedge hogs, sea cucumber and zillions of mollusk tied to the rocks, such as mussels, cholgas and king crabs which reach a size of one meter diameter, the black hake, and the local sardine.
